Welcome to the 2021 season of Shock and Awe Fantasy Football League!
As we enter a new season, some things change, but some stay the same. We’re only replacing one team this year, as we welcome SMILF to the league and say good-bye to The Quiet Storm, who is taking a year off.
With the change to the NFL regular season format, we see some major changes in our league as well. We’ll now be playing a 14 week regular season, instead of a 13 week regular season. Playoffs will run Weeks 15 thru Week 17. This seemed the most fair, as we avoid a Week 14 playoff game where there are NFL teams on bye.
We’ll also be adjusting the division alignment, as you may have noticed. Instead of four divisions of three teams, there are now three divisions of four teams. This allows each team to play the other teams in their divisions twice (6 games) and the other eight teams once, for a total of 14 regular season games. Playoffs will take the top team from each division, along with the other three top overall teams in the league.
As we’ve done in the past, we’ll keep a weekly payout for different challenges. Those challenges will be posted on the message boards, and on the website. We’ll also have our regular payout for division winners and first and second place, and I’ll be putting up a little bit of extra out of my own pocket for the Turkey Day DFS challenge we’ve done the past couple of years.
Scoring hasn’t changed. Roster positions will remain the same, with a super flex QB/WR/RB/TE slot, and no kicker in the league. Unlike last year, we will go back to the one IR spot for injuries. As another change, we will have no COVID protocols this season. The NFL has already stated that if a team has a COVID outbreak, they will cancel / forfeit games if they can’t reschedule. We will be adopting a similar stance. If you want to draft Josh Allen as your QB, and then a Bills game gets canceled because Cole Beasley got COVID, you don’t get to designate a sub in case the game ends up canceled. No excuses for COVID this year.
Team Pup-N-Suds has once again agreed to be the co-commissioner this season, to help with approving trades and other things where my impartiality might come in to question. I always support trades and will approve them unless it looks like some sort of collusion.
Draft order will be determined a couple weeks before the draft. I’ll set up a Zoom call and send out a link to everyone so you can view the process if you so choose. Be watching for that some time in August.
If you ever have questions, please let me know. Between the league page, the website, and the group chat, I think everything should be communicated pretty well.
Have a great 2021 season everyone!
